MERINO WOOL FOR HIGH-PERFORMING KNITS...

NATURALLY

Meet Merino: a superhero among fibres. Fine, warm, and ultra-soft, it's exceedingly comfortable next to the skin. But Merino's high-tech benefits go so much further than that, and it's all thanks to some tough sheep. Fair warning before we take a closer look – you might find you won't want to wear anything else.

WHAT IS MERINO WOOL?

This wool comes from – you guessed it – the hardy breed of Merino sheep. Our wool is specifically from sheep that roam the rugged terrain of South Africa. However, as Merino flocks live in a range of temperatures, from snowy in New Zealand to scorching in South Africa, their fleeces are able to take the range of climates in their stride. That means Merino fibres are warm when it's cool, and cool when it's warm. And, of course, the wool is lightweight, for all that mountain scrambling. Merino clothing feels smooth and soft against your skin, and subtly moulds itself to your shape. Because of its luxurious comfort, Merino is regarded as a premium wool. And we wholeheartedly agree.

MERINO WOOL'S MANY TALENTS

Often referred to as 'nature's performance fabric', Merino wool offers advantages you might otherwise associate with sportswear. It's much lighter and more breathable than other types of wool and helps regulate your body temperature by releasing excess heat. It wicks away moisture to keep you feeling fresh, and resists odours to keep you smelling good too. But if it's so lightweight, is Merino wool warm? Absolutely. Its fine fibres create lots of tiny air pockets, trapping in cosiness to create a wonderfully insulated layer. A Merino wool cardigan will see you through most of the year, as a light cover-up during warmer months, or as a mid-layer to seal in heat under your winter coat.

ALL-IMPORTANT WOOLMARK CERTIFICATION

All of our Merino wool clothing is Woolmark-certified. This is an assurance that the garment you're wearing meets exceptionally high-quality standards and that the wool has been rigorously tested for durability and performance. Certification also ensures that the fibre composition of your garment is exactly what you expect it to be – 100% pure Merino wool. Woolmark and Tyrwhitt: two names you can trust when it comes to Merino clothing.

CARING FOR YOUR MERINO WOOL CLOTHING

But what about Merino wool care? You might think this high-achieving fabric is also high-maintenance, but it isn't hard to look after. It can be machine washed on a cool setting or wool programme, without fabric conditioner. This is partly because conditioner coats the fibres, but you'll also find that Merino is soft enough without any extra help. Afterwards, steer clear of the tumble dryer. Ideally, Merino wool clothing should be dried flat to avoid stretching, and always away from direct sunlight. Once dry, fold it and store it in a drawer to keep it in top condition.
