WORKING FROM HOME IN STYLE

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PRIORITY

When we're not going to the office, what happens to our look? Suiting up for a video call from your kitchen will look silly, so you want to strike a balance between professional and comfortable.

Whether you're conference-calling or just sprucing up for your cat, WFH style rules apply. We prepared a failsafe 4-step plan to help you dress to work from home. It's easier than you think.

Step 1 - Start with a proper shirt

This is a fool-proof way to start a good look. Make it a casual shirt if you wish. Untuck it if that's how you prefer it, but make sure you have a collar on. It will make video appearances respectable, professional, and will boost your confidence as you write an email.

Checks, subtle prints, and oxfords and flannels are all welcome. Let them add an elegant casual slant to your look.

Step 2 – Put trousers on

Staying in your boxers won't hurt you if you don't stand up during a video call. But, to be on the safe side, as well as ensuring your dignity remains intact, we recommend chinos. They're your safest compromise between tailored trousers and the pyjama bottoms you won't want to take off in the morning.

Lose the belt if the trousers will stay in place without one. You may also turn up the hem to allow ease of movement around the house, where, more than ever, it's safer not to bring shoes in.

Step 3 – Isn't knit great?

It does get a little chilly at home, especially when you're sitting down all day without moving. But, please, leave the duvet on your bed.

While your favourite hoodie may send out a juvenile, unprofessional message, a tailored jacket or a blazer will make you look overdressed.

Wear knitwear. Merino, cashmere, or cotton jumpers will keep you warm and elegantly layered, with the right amount of dressiness to make a great impression. You'll also enjoy how comfortable knits are.

For extra points, pick out vibrant colours that will make you stand out on video. Trust us, you'll get compliments.

Step 4 – Get groomed!

You'll feel tempted to leave your stubble or not do anything about your bed hair. But, maintaining your grooming routine when working from home will guarantee dignity to your look. Shave, style your hair as usual, and do whatever you would do to leave the house on an office day.

This will not only help maintain a sense of normality, but it will also ensure your look states "he's still at work", as opposed to "he's slacking".
