Having already fallen victim to an unplanned purchase in-store, I thought I’d at least justify it by reviewing the gilet itself. The “Performance Shell Gilet – Navy” is, annoyingly, exactly as advertised. It really is a year-round layering staple, which is inconvenient because it means I now have no excuse not to wear it everywhere. The navy colour is smart enough for the work commute, yet casual enough that I don’t look like I’m trying too hard when I inevitably end up wearing it to the pub. It’s lightweight but still manages to keep the chill off, which makes it ideal for those indecisive British weather days where it’s neither properly cold nor convincingly warm. I have absolutely not tested it on the golf course, and I won’t be—I don’t play golf, I hate it 🤣. But it does give off the sort of polished, outdoorsy vibe that suggests I might, which is probably as close as I’ll ever get. In summary: a dangerously versatile piece that has justified its impulsive purchase far more than I’d like to admit. Five stars—from me, and reluctantly, from my wardrobe.
